“Color Grading in Filmmaking”

Colors in a film can transform a scene dramatically. From a cool blues to angry reds, the overall color of a scene can change the mood of the viewer. The video “Color grading in Filmmaking” focuses on the techniques to achieve the correct and different tones while editing. I learned while editing using the waveforms or vectorscope feature, one can get more control over the color of a shot. Changing exposure as well as taking away red and green tones from skin can create a realistic neutral skin tone that will make a more appealing scene. However in the video it also focuses around the idea that neutral tones is not always the best and there are no rules in color grading. I found it very interesting the many animation movies use color grading so creatively. For instance, movies like The Incredibles to Toy Story color grading plays a huge factor in creating the movie’s environment. In my future films I want to establish different moods depending on the overall color grading of a scene.
